I've got to say that if what you're displaying isn't tabular data, you really shouldn't use tables to begin with. ;)

Actually, the story you just read used tables. :) If you know of a better way to center a block of text on a page, I'd love to hear it, because tables cause accessibility problems.

*chuckles* Yeah, it's probably not the most common fetish out there, is it? ^_~

As for centering a block... I'd set both margin-left and margin-right to auto. According to http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/visudet.html, that should work, but I'm too lazy to actually try now. ^_~

OK. ^^ (BTW, the above comment was really tongue-in-cheek; I don't personally think there's anything wrong with using tables for layouts. But it's something you often hear from purists, and if you want to design your page for screen readers, text browsers like lynx and the like, tables are - from what I hear - something you should avoid unless they're really necessary. :))
